objective of the Community Investment Fund (CIF) for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) is to provide financial support to their members to undertake socio-economic activities and improve their livelihoods and quality of life. CIF serves as a catalyst for improving livelihoods by enabling SHGs to access loans for activities like setting up small-scale industries, meeting credit needs, and strengthening their capacity for self-reliance and financial management.
The primary purpose of a Community Investment Fund (CIF) for a Self-Help Group (SHG) is to serve as catalytic capital to provide small loans and grants to its members for socio-economic activities and livelihood development, ultimately aiming to improve their quality of life and financial inclusion.

To be eligible for Community Investment Fund (CIF), a Self-Help Group (SHG) must be actively existing for at least six months and practicing the <<Panchasutras>> (regular meetings, savings, internal lending, timely repayment, and up-to-date accounts). The group should also have a fully functional bank account, maintain perfect accounts, promote internal lending, and ideally have a participatory micro-plan and a dedicated person for bookkeeping.

To get a Community Investment Fund (CIF), a Self-Help Group (SHG) needs to provide documents such as the SHG's inter-se agreement, resolutions to open a bank account and apply for the CIF, KYC (identity and address proof) documents for authorized signatories, a letter of recommendation from the relevant Self-Help Group Promotion Agency (SHP), and a track record of their repayment history. Other required documents can include the SHG's meeting attendance register and their project report.
