The objective of the scheme is to: 1) Improve quality of life in the rural areas, 2) Accelerate sanitation coverage in rural areas to achieve the vision of Swachha Bharat by 2019, 3) Motivate communities and PRIs promoting sustainable sanitation facilities through awareness and health education, 4) Cover the remaining schools not covered under SSA and Anganwadi centeres in rural areas for proper sanitation facilities, 5) Encourage cost effective and appropriate technologies for safe and sustainable sanitation, 6) Develop community managed environmental sanitation systems fcusing on SLWM for over all cleanliness in rural areas

The plan for this is prepared at District and State level. However, request can be made at District Level to DDO office or District SBM Unit.
This scheme is only applicable in the gram panchayats where IEC/Awareness activities have been undertaken to sensitize people regarding hygiene and sanitation and where there are signs of demand generation.
