Objective

Carpet Weaving is an ancient craft of Persia which was introduced by Emperor Akbar in India. After years of stagnation, it has emerged as a flourishing cottage industry, mostly in remote tribal areas where other sources of employment are not available. Carpet weaving is an activity which requires skill formation at a young age. It has tremendous potential for employment generation as well as earning foreign exchange. So this scheme has been basically introduced to prepare skilled workers after giving them training in a batch of 50 or so for a period of 6 months. After imparting the training these skilled workers are engaged in the production activity of carpet weaving by forming a cooperative societies of their own and thus they work as members of such societies which now act as a means of employment generating centre.

Objective

To provide skill-based training in woolen carpet weaving to unemployed youth and artisans, promoting self-employment, preserving traditional crafts, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

Eligibility

Eligibility: The training is provided through an NGO, a Cooperative Society, a trust which are having 2 to 3 years working experienceBank Balance: Rs.2.00 Lac as on the date of applicationAgreement: Apply with prescribed agreement signed by two committee members.Deposit: To credit Rs.20,000/- refundable deposit in joint account. Application Method

The NGO/Trust should have atleast 500 Sq ft. space available and should have basic facilities. The selected agency/trust/NGO shall have to deposit INR 25,000 with DIC.
