Beneficiary Type: Farmer
In order to protect farmers and ensure their livelihood and income this scheme is formulated. The main objective of the scheme is to provide insurance to the 26 main types of notified crops. In case of natural calamity, pests, diseases etc.
The purpose of the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS) is to provide financial support to farmers in the event of crop failure due to natural calamities, pests, and diseases, thereby stabilizing their income and encouraging the adoption of modern farming practices.
Financial coverage (insurance) from government in case of crop failure of notified crops
In principle, the scheme covers all the farmers who grow the notified crops in the notified areas. This also includes farmers who hae borrowed loans from Financial institutions as well as all other farmers (non-loanee farmers)
Farmers who grow notified crops in notifed areas and who avail seasonal agriculture operations loans from financial institutions (i.e. Farmers who have borrowed loans regarding agriculture from financial institutions) are compulsarily covered by this scheme and they do not need to apply. The farmers who are non-loanee (who do not or have not borrowed loan from financial institution for agriculture operations) may apply to AIC Ltd. and pay premoum for notified crop to nodal bank of concern.
